Casio PT30 & Losing My Edge

Today my parents pulled out my old Casio PT30 keyboard which kept me entertained on a trip to the UK when I was 10. It was bought duty free in Hong Kong and made for some fun times whilst snowed in London and Cambridge way back in the early 80s.

My daughter, having been busy trying to play Hot Cross Buns on a real piano, started playing with it. The rhythms on the PT30 were always so cheesy, so I hit the ‘disco 2’ rhythm preset for old time’s sake . . . and lo and behold it is the exact drum pattern from LCD Soundsystem’s Losing My Edge! Same tempo, exactly the same.

The “slow-mo” music played during the Channel 9 cricket coverage this summer has slowly been driving me mad (it’s extremely annoying music).

I was listening to a rendition of Debussy’s Claire de lune the other day… and realised the “cricket song” has simply cut up and looped two of Debussy’s less familiar sections and applied a pissweak chillout beat over the top.
